End of an Era

Final event of the Eastern Valley Conference is at Xavier

Xavier High School hosted the last event of the Eastern Valley Conference, when the huge Conference Track & Field Meet took place on Saturday May 16, 2015 at XHS.

This meet attracted about 1,000 total people -- nearly 700 athletes and several hundred spectators and many coaches.  There were 18 teams, boys and girls, from the 9 EVC schools in the spectacular, colorful meet.  It is the End of an Era;  the Eastern Valley Conference will not exist after this spring, due to WIAA-mandated realignment.

The 2014-15 school year is the final year of the Eastern Valley Conference, as the WIAA assigned new conferences for all of the high schools in northeast Wisconsin...  and Xavier will join the BAY CONFERENCE starting in the fall of 2015.

The Eastern Valley Conference was started in the fall of in 2007 when 4 teams from the former East Central Conference and 6 teams (including Xavier) from the Valley 8 Conference started competing in the newly-formed league.   In 2009, Omro asked the WIAA to move out of the Eastern Valley to the Flyway Conference because of not being able to compete with the larger schools, and the school moved out at the end of the 2009-10 school year.

About 80 schools in northeast Wisconsin were impacted in that massive conference realignment plan that sends Xavier to the BAY.
